Well thats BMW and minisunited for you and they want to steal BMOCs thunder so I will not be there @ Silverstone.:P
Interesting to see this news story in Mini Magazine this month (April 2009 Issue)....................

BMW supports IMM

Mini brand owner, BMW, has thrown it,s support behind this year's IMM in Birmingham - celebrating the Mini's 50th birthday. Despite hosting its own event at Silverstone on May 22-24, the German company has released a statement saying:
"The Mini heritage and the community involved in the brand's history is unique and has built Mini's legendary status. Helping to keep that history alive is of great importance for MINI and BMW Group. MINI will support this year's IMM with an exhibition of special classic and new Mini's, and a donation to support the event."
IMM organiser Mike Price told Mini Magazine, "We welcome BMW's support. Anything that can help and contribute to keeping the Mini alive can only be a good thing."

BMW are listed on the BMOC website "IMM 2009 Mini 50" list of Sponsors here:-

http://imm2009.com/imm/index.php?opt...&Itemid=59

They were also one of the main sponsors last year at the IMM 2008 in the Netherlands (see MINI & Mini logos):-

http://www.imm2008.org/
Quote from the Dutch Mini Club website:-
"An IMM is no longer a low budget event for the organizing club and it is hard to keep a promise to organize a low budget event for all participants. Therefore I would like to thank our sponsors who did help us out on the financial side. The biggest change since a few years is that MINI as manufacturer has become one of the main supporters. In our opinion it is a good thing that the manufacturer is interested in these kind of club events. It keeps the club scene alive and financially possible."

i still think the organisers have missed a big part of their market, the majority of the customers are going to want to come either saturday or sunday, so they should of offered this as a ticket option / cost. They have limited the numbers of people who will visit this event due to only having a weekend ticket, i think the respose from this thread proves my point. Every other mini event that any club has organisied have all ways done this, must of been a very badlythought outbuisness plan and i really hope that we as a club never do any thing like this for any of our events

"Finally, it might not be the L2B but if you were not already aware, thousands of people are expected from around the UK and the rest of the world for a big party hosted by MINI. The event will be held at the legendary Silverstone racetrack in Northamptonshire over part of the Bank Holiday weekend Friday 22nd - Sunday 24th May, the weekend after the L2B. I am told there will be something to give everyone an ear-to-ear grin. Activities from go-karting to slack-lining to bungee-trampolining, music from UK bands, competitions, racing – new and classic, even take a lap of the track yourself, relaxation areas, stunt shows, a kids’ area, a journey through the incredible history of MINI, special people from MINI’s past, great food, drinks, DJs late into the night and much, much more. Myself and the other L2B organisers will all be there to relax and enjoy the hard-work of someone else’s efforts. Three jam-packed days to celebrate! You can go along for just a day or an evening, or if you want the full experience pitch up your tent and make a weekend of it. Tickets £35 in advance for the whole weekend (£30 for LSMOC Members – see next edition of Mini Talk for information) and under 14s go free - Find out more and buy tickets at http://www.miniunited.com/miniunited2009.

Beatlemania at MINI United 2009
MINI has come up with a fresh interpretation of George Harrison’s extravagant original Mini to coincide with the brand’s 50th birthday. The one-off model will be handed over to Olivia Harrison at the MINI United event. Olivia will accept the MINI on behalf of the Material World Charitable Foundation, a charity set up by George Harrison in 1973. The car will be auctioned in aid of the Foundation later in the year. MINI United – the world’s biggest fan event – will take place at Silverstone in the UK on 22 – 24 May 2009. The festival delivers three days of non-stop entertainment for the brand’s large fan community. MINI United is all about concerts, shows, car races etc., and provides the perfect stage on which to showcase the unique new MINI inspired by George Harrison.
George’s psychedelic MINI in a new look.
Back in 1966 The Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein gave each of the Fab Four a Mini Cooper S as a gift. In keeping with the zeitgeist of the time, lead guitarist George had his car painted with psychedelic images such as yantras and Sanskrit mantras. In 1967 this legendary Mini starred in The Beatles’ film Magical Mystery Tour. And now, to coincide with its latest landmark anniversary, MINI is dedicating a modern interpretation of George’s car to the man himself. The MINI has been designed according to the wishes of Olivia Harrison and rekindles the look of George’s famous original.
“George was a huge MINI fan and he would have enjoyed creating this new version. The fact that MINI’s anniversary celebrations will also benefit our Foundation has made it an enjoyable as well as meaningful collaboration.” says Olivia Harrison.

Well it's good if it raises money for charity, although I believe George would have seen it as something of a fraud, much like that Indian mystic Guru bloke (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi) who they hung out with during 1967/68: -

Even though in George Harrison's 1978 spoof Beatles warts and all history TV/film called 'The Rutles - All You Need Is Cash' that he financed with some of the Monty Python cast (around the same time he financed the controversial Python classic film 'The Life Of Brian'), he had that Guru portrayed as a dirty old man instead (much like Mr Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was as it turned out). i.e. Arthur Sultan the Surrey Mystic: -

Still at least they enjoyed their wild 'TEA' parties, even though they knew it could lead on to stronger things like coffee, cocoa, ovaltine or even HORLICKS: -

So after you've had a nice cup of tea, watch and listen to this mind blowing Beatles classic: -

A great original just like this: -

Just be careful it doesn't cause a psychedelic epileptic fit though and here's a couple more to wet your lips on: -
