Hi,
Just wondered if anyone knew what sort of prices these two models (Brooklands Green) go for? Obviously it depends on condition, history etc. But not seen any for sale for a while Cheers |

they are not, g c swanley seem to make the prices up as they go along... am i the only person that thinks their prices and absolutly astronomical?! There is another mini specialist that I found their prices to be reasonable, 'all minis' can't remember where they are though.

GC Minis do seem to have quite a lot of cooper sports in the 6k-8k bracket, quite a lot are what i'd consider quite high mileage (65000+), although they'd say this is low. i know its hard to say without checking out individual cars, but they look in good condition, would people on here generally avoid cars with this mileage at that price even though the rest of the car seems in good order?(sorry if this seems a daft question but i read many of the descriptions and they seem ok until you get to the mileage bit and this is off putting considering the price!)

I guess a full service history would be good, although I've heard many say that Rover service records aren't always worth the paper their written on.
Plus if the Mini has been run on thin/modern oil all it's life (more than likely if it got serviced by Rover), then make sure the gear change/baulk rings are still working correctly.

The mechanical side of minis is cheap and generally simple to fix. The body structure is the expensive bit, especially if you have to pay someone else to put it right. When ever i buy a car no matter what it is, i take more notice of the general condition than the mileage to be honest, ive seen low mileage cars that were total rusty sheds, looked like someone had lived and sometimes died inside it. I've also seen High mileage ones that were spotless all over. I'd agree a Rover service history doesnt mean a lot at this age, when mine was done by Rover i usually had to grease at least one of the suspension points they'd forgotten! Taffy has a Fetish for 20w50 oil , 10w40 would have been used by a Rover dealer, and it doesnt really matter. What matters is the engine and gearbox work, i mean someone could have used 20w50 oil religiously at 6000 miles but not bothered to check the level in between, so come 3k there is none left in it! You want to see some sort of service history though, even if it's just a wedge of parts receipts. So like any second hand car, test everything make sure it all works go over it with a magnet looking for excessive filler, look for signs of panel repairs and paint rectification (there is bound to be 'some' one a mini). Look at the general condition, if the previous owner looked after the inside and the body, chances are they were equally fastidious with the mechanicals, if it looks like its been banger racing and used as a skip.... A well looked after mini is good for 100k plus these days. |
